Boreal forest

One of my most luminous memories of my trip to Alaska is linked to the beauty of the boreal forest near Fairbanks (http://www.borealforest.org/). I didn’t see much of it, just had a glimpse at it, but its light and colors have stayed with me. Tomorrow, I am joining a Christian Peacemaker Teams (http:/www.cpt.org/) delegation to Northwest Ontario; we’ll be visiting Kenora's Anishinaabe communities (http://www.anishinaabemdaa.com/) and learn more about their struggle for justice. The boreal forest that surrounds this area is subject to massive logging that depletes natural resources and destroys the environment. As a result, the Anishinaabe communities are losing their ability to sustain themselves. I am very eager to learn more about this place and this history, to support the local struggle for justice as much as I can, and maybe, at some point, to walk peacefully in the boreal forest.
