I have landed...

Yesterday evening, I landed in Tel Aviv, at 5:15pm local time. A long trip, all the way from Salt Lake City: approximately 12'900 km or 8'000 miles. Here more than anywhere else, the verb "to land" is charged with many layers of meaning, all entangled and hard to sort out; in this region, every bit of history has something to do with the land, its ownership, its borders, and its sites. I toured some parts of Jerusalem this afternoon, from East to West and back; the contrasts are striking. Many images in my head after just one day, I cannot fathom how many I will store in the next three months. No picture taken though, not yet.

  2. Thanks for the note on your safe arrival, Muriel. I'll be sharing your blog site with returned EAs here in the USA (and one in the UK).

  3. We're also glad to hear you landed safely. I've been thinking - recently - about Psalm 1, walking, standing, and sitting ... You won't get to the being planted part over there - but maybe you'll get in touch with you roots in new ways? And I wish you the knowledge of the tree spreading its crown to the skies!
    Peace! Marietjie (and Matthias)

  4. While the last comment was being written by Marietjie, I was taking a picture of the poster-tree uploaded on my January 5 post. Its roots go deep...
